What is holding you back from getting on that plane, bus, or train to travel.

Is it fear of the unknown? Getting out of your comfort zone isn’t meant to be easy.

If it was, everyone would be reaching their goals, whether it be travelling for lengthy periods of time around the world or even starting their own business.

There are small steps that you can take in order to achieve these goals of stepping away from your comfort zone that you have been putting off for so long for fear of the unknown.

What steps do I need to take to step out of my comfort zone?

1-Try Something New

Try something new.

It can be anything from changing the route that you go to work, going somewhere new on the weekends or starting a new hobby that you have always wanted to do.

Do one small thing differently everyday.

This one small thing can make a huge difference in the long term as you are opening your mind to new possibilities and changing your mentality towards outcomes in life.

“Better to have tried and failed than to have never tried at all.”

2-Embrace Change

Although you may not know it at the time, one small step can lead to many big changes in the long term.

Not only will you become more positive, you will be able to let go of what is holding you back.

Your mindset will change and no task will become too difficult.

You will embrace challenges and they will help you grow.

3-Make the most of the unknown

If you like to be in control of every situation than this will definitely push your boundaries and get you outside your comfort zone.

Letting go of your safety net will allow you to have the opportunity for new discoveries, learn, and have less or no fear of the uncertainty of what is around the corner.

4-You might fail

Having the courage to attempt something new is an achievement in itself.

You will find that it isn’t as scary as you thought it might be.

The reality is that you might fail, but these failures are what lead to the successes that we have in life.

If you fall hard the first time, get back up, dust yourself off, and try again.

Every failure can be looked at as a success and once step closer to your goal.

“Winners are not afraid of losing. But losers are. Failure is part of the process of success. People who avoid failure also avoid success.” – Robert T. Kiyosaki

5-Take Risks

Taking risks is so important to step out of your comfort zone.

I’m not talking about jumping out of a plane or bungee jumping from the highest bridge.

They can be as small as choosing a different topic to study at school that is out of the norm or trying a new sport that will push your boundaries.

You need to commit to the choices you make and own it whether you succeed or not.

6-Face your fears

Life is too short and we should be filling it with more experiences and adventures that will be remembered for many years to come.

These life experiences will be more rewarding knowing that you have faced your fears to achieve your goals.

7-Forget FOMO (Fear of missing out)

If you want to do something for yourself, forget what everyone else is doing and that you will miss out on something.

Yes, you may occasionally miss out on hanging out with your friends, but nothing beats the feeling of accomplishing something that you doubted yourself that you couldn’t do it.

8-Courage

It takes a lot of grit and dedication to step outside of your comfort zone but once you have taken all the steps to get here then you will feel free and a sense of achievement.

The first time I travelled overseas by myself was when I was eighteen years old and I was moving to America.

I knew no one and I had one suitcase and a set of golf clubs.

With little money, the clothes in my bag and a golf scholarship, I had to learn to do everything for myself.

Most of my friends in Australia thought that I would be home within 6 months, but I knew that I was committed long term facing everything that came my way.

Making decision whether they were right or wrong, it didn’t matter, but to make the most of every opportunity that came my way.

“The Secret of happiness is freedom. The secret of freedom…. is courage.” ~ Thucydides

Most of all have fun.

What is something that you have done recently that was out of your comfort zone?
